Wechat Group Marketing SOP - Shadstone

About Task

We need to get the word out about our Shenzhen, China based event! Obviously this means WECHAT! Everyone is on it.

While you may say “but this is an English language event, not Chinese” - There are tons of English speaking expats in Wechat, and tons of English language Wechat groups about Amazon FBA, e-commerce, sourcing, China business, and more.

So today we’ll go through a marketing strategy that includes sending messages to various Wechat groups to create buzz and get people to attend our event!

Confirm Our Wechat Event Page is Ready

Before we start sending out the wechat page to everyone, we need to make sure that the page is ready to be shared!

Wechat doesn’t allow us to edit the page after it is published - so if we send a page that is no longer valid (date change, venue change, speakers change) then it makes it hard to keep telling everyone something has changed.

So it is best to speak to the managing team and ensure we are ready to “push out” this message.

Have Laptop & Mobile Ready (Connect Web-Wechat)

This is going to be a lot of messaging. Therefore, we recommend you connect your Wechat to your laptop so you can type quickly to a lot of groups.

I use and then scan the QR code to connect my wechat to my laptop. There are other ways too.

Make a Target List of Wechat Groups

It is time to see which groups you are a member of is best to spread the message too. Before just sending it to everyone, simply write down a list on a piece of paper or make an Excel spreadsheet.

Try To Ask Moderator For Permission First

To be nice, and keep our brand looking positive, it is good to ask the group moderator before advertising inside. This can be done by clicking into the group members, and on the top left of the list should be the moderator.

Send them a direct message and ask politely for permission.

Once You Start Spreading the Message - Be Ready to Answer Questions

Once you start sharing the wechat page in various wechat groups, be ready for people to ask questions. Don’t just spread the messages and go out for lunch! Being online and ready to talk to people is the most sure fire way to make sure we get a result from this marketing.

Be ready to answer in the groups, as well as in the direct messages people may add you in.

Have a List of Standard Replies + Keep Track of Questions

Be ready to answer the questions. We will try to have an FAQ ready

999 FAQ.

You can check this list, if there is a question you get that isn’t there, put the question there. If you can answer it, putting the answer there too will help a lot for future reference!

If you can’t answer it, ask in Slack to the event channel. Let’s work together to get the answer ASAP. Then put the answer in the FAQ document, and answer that person in Wechat.

Idea - Make a New Wechat Group

We can make a wechat group for potential attendees to come in! When people message and want to attend, we can add them in a group so they can keep up to date with what is happening. We need to make sure it doesn’t get spammy though.

This is a new idea and needs to be tested for effectiveness.

Be On Wechat For a Few Hours

This will be a lot of messaging and sending out questions and topics. Try to keep your schedule open for a few hours after all this messaging, as most likely you will get a lot of people asking you for more information.
