Codex edit
Alex Finn’s preview is four lines. The first cut belongs in Codex, on a copy of the clip. CapCut on the second monitor is the polish pass, after a review file exists.

What this is
Field notes from Alex Finn (@AlexFinn), 29 Oct 2026, 17:24 UTC. About 1,500 likes, 46 reposts, 440 bookmarks, 201,000 views at capture. He quote-tweeted Tibo (@thsottiaux) on the Codex usage change, then previewed the edit he was in the middle of. He said a fuller workflow post was coming. As of 31 Oct that post is not up. These four lines are the published method.
The Claude Code version of a file-based edit already lives on /video-editing: skills, FFmpeg, HyperFrames, and a person who approves each phase. This page is the same job with Codex as the orchestrator.
One sentence
Copy a short clip, have Astra 6 on high cut the dead air and burn plain captions, watch the review file, write what you fixed into a skill, and only then let computer use touch a duplicate CapCut project.
What he published
- Model. Astra 6, effort set to high, speed set to ultra fast.
- App. CapCut open on a second monitor.
- Hands. Computer use makes the edits in that app.
- Memory. Improve the skill as you go.
He tried Terra on the same job and says it worked worse. Ultra fast, in his account, was faster than a person. The day before, he wrote that he had been burning tokens figuring the flow out. The skill is the part he has not published.
The meter, kept apart
Tibo’s note, the same afternoon: usage limits double for Pro 100, 200, and 500, and for Business Premium, effective that day. The planned reduction on Pro 200 is cancelled, so Work and Codex usage on that tier stay where they were. Extended limits for dots continue, and a dot’s usage stays separate from the default meter.
Finn felt the meter double while Astra was editing. He also wrote that limits were 4× higher than where they were supposed to be, because a planned 50% cut was replaced by a doubling. A planned half, replaced by a double, is four times the plan. Both sentences can be true. Versus yesterday, the named tiers doubled. Udi Wertheimer replied within two minutes: it is one doubling. That reply is the warning against telling people the meter quadrupled overnight.
Ultra fast is the other burn. On /codexfast, Fast is a speed and usage multiplier on roughly the same work, and high is a reasoning effort that spends more tokens. Finn turns both knobs up for the mouse pass. The first file cut on this page leaves ultra fast off.
Two jobs
A talking-head cut is files: probe, silence, captions, a review mp4 beside the original. Codex can call ffmpeg for that. Title cards and motion stay on /hyperframes. The same skill install works in Codex.
CapCut is the job with no file handle yet: a template, a zoom the skill cannot name, a music bed already in the project. That is the computer-use pass. It is the same shape of clicking as /computeruse, pointed at an editor on your own monitor instead of a cloud desktop clicking Slack.
A third-party FFmpeg skill can be dropped into Codex. Read that repo before you run it. The first sitting here uses ffmpeg the agent can already call, then you save the corrections as your own skill.
First sitting
- Pick one 60–90 second clip. Copy it into its own folder. Codex works on the copy.
- Open Codex in that folder. Astra 6, effort high. Ultra fast off.
- Ask it to probe the file, cut the dead air, burn plain captions, and write a review mp4 next to the original. You watch that file.
- Write what you fixed into a skill in the folder. That is his last line, applied to files.
- Open CapCut on the second monitor after the review cut exists. Duplicate the project. One named computer-use move, a caption style or a single zoom, then you take the mouse back. Astra 6 high and ultra fast is his setting for that pass. Export lands on a new file.
What CapCut has already shipped
CapCut’s 27 Oct 2026 newsroom post from CapCut World in Los Angeles describes three doors, on three clocks.
- EditPilot, on desktop now. Their words: describe edits in natural language for complex or repetitive timeline tasks, inside CapCut. The example is recoloring one object in a shot. That box is CapCut’s, with Codex closed.
- A ChatGPT plugin, in the coming months. An idea starts in ChatGPT, CapCut assembles a first cut, and the conversation keeps going: hold a shot, fix captions, keep music under the voice. A hands-on edit is supposed to stay in the conversation.
- A more agentic CapCut, piloting in the coming months on desktop, web, and mobile. Their line is a creative goal to a first draft, with the creator still in control.
Finn is on none of those clocks. He has CapCut open and Astra driving it. CapCut pages aimed at “Codex MCP” and “Codex plugins” tell you to recheck the live product before trusting a fixed install. A YouTube description is the same kind of page.
What to run
- Keep: a copy of a short clip, Astra 6 on high, ultra fast off until the review file is something you would post, ffmpeg for the dead air and the captions, corrections written into a skill, CapCut on a duplicate for one named computer-use move, then the mouse back in your hand.
- His, filed as his: Terra lost this comparison, ultra fast was faster than a person, and 4× is the ratio against the cut that did not happen. The skill file is still his to publish.
- Leave for later: a 20-minute timeline as the first computer-use project, an install prompt copied from a landing page, and waiting on the ChatGPT plugin before the file cut exists. EditPilot can take a repetitive timeline chore on its own, inside CapCut, when that chore is the whole job.
